In a showing of unity not often seen in Hip-Hop, it seemed like all of Dallas’ DJ & Hip-Hop culture came together yesterday to raise money for the family of the late-great DJ Whiz T.
Whiz passed away last year, leaving behind a wife and a 2-year-old daughter. He was the Dallas Mavericks DJ, a true hip-hop head and a devoted family man.
In an event yesterday (Mar 13th) at RBC, in Deep Ellum, Whiz T’s crates were up for diggers to finger through and make purchases. Hundreds of people left with vinyl from Whiz’s personal collection, with all the proceeds going to his family.
Legendary DJ Spinderella and others organized the event. All day long, different DJ’s rocked out– myself included, while Headkrack of the Bodega Brovas hosted and auctioned off other items.
You could feel the love in the air. Yesterday just goes to show how much people in the community cared about a great man.
Rest in peace Anthony “DJ Whiz T” Johnson.
